Stay Healthier and Lose Weight with the Wellness Advantages of Grapefruits

Grapefruits have been around since the 1700s when they were discovered in
Barbados. Botanists think the grapefruit is the result of natural cross breading
between the orange and the pomelo. While their origin may not be fully understood one thing is certain: grapefruit are one of the healthiest foods on the planet. They contain great volumes of vitamins and minerals and scientists are continuously adding to grapefruit's long list of health benefits.

Grapefruits are full of vitamin C. Ascorbic Acid or Vitamin C helps to support the immune system and can help to reduce cold symptoms or the degree of the cold symptons. Vitamin C may also slow up the severity of asthma, osteoarthritis and arthritis. Studies have proven that consuming fruits and veggies great in vitamin C can decrease your chance of heart disease, stroke and cancer.

Grapefruits not only contain great amounts of vitamin C, but they also contain
considerable amounts of potassium, vitamin A, and Fiber. Grapefruit contains
pectin which is a soluble fiber that has been proven to lessen cholesterol levels and slow the buildup of plaque on the inside walls of blood vessels. Ruby red grapefruit juice also contains lycopene which helps avoid LDL (bad cholesterol) from damaging artery walls. Drinking  the fruit juice will give you all of the vitamins and minerals that the actual fruit does but it doesn't contain the fiber.

A researched released in the British Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry showed that drinking 2-4 cups daily of grape fruit, apple or orange juice reduced the chance of commencing kidney stones. Drinking grape fruit juice is also an outstanding way to detoxify the liver.

Another research that was already released in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry shows that grapefruits help fix broken DNA in human prostate cancer cells. Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men in the United States. The older men become the more periods their tissues split. The more periods their tissues split, the greater the chance of their DNA mutating. Grapefruits help one's body fix the broken DNA and protect one's body from developing cancer.

Not only can grapefruit keep you healthy, they can also help you lose weight. Research led by Dr. Ken Fujioka from the Nourishment and Metabolic Research Center at Scripps Clinic in California, has proven that people can lose weight consuming grapefruit or drinking its juice. In a 12 week analysis, 100 members ate what they normally ate each day and only slightly increased how long they exercised. The members were divided into three groups: one team consumed 6 ounces of grape fruit juice before foods, one team ate half a grape fruit before foods, and one team did not eat or drink grape fruit juice. On average, the members who ate grape fruit or consumed grape fruit juice lost nearly 4 pounds, with many losing more than 10 pounds.

Grapefruits are a great way to get a lean body and lose weight. They have been a popular diet food for a long period and analysis has proven they are effective at helping you lose weight and get a lean body. However, grape fruit and its fruit juice should not be taken while using certain prescriptions. If you're currently taking drugs check with your doctor before including grapefruit to your daily eating plan.
